Amador County Council, which was begun in 1910, was reactivated in 1997 through the efforts of many of the current Charter Members. Its original name, The Mother Lode Council, was lost following deactivation in 1926. Another council now has that designation.
Council #1849, although not affiliated with any one parish, is a vital part of the Catholic Community in Amador County. Drawing its members primarily from the three parishes in the county, the Council maintains an active role in all three.
A key understanding for the Amador County Council 1849 is the importance of Family. Whenever and wherever possible, families are included the activities of the Knights of Columbus.
