Activities of the Knights of Columbus
he Knights of Columbus are involved -----with many activities that benefit the Church and the Community. One of the activities is the annual Drive for the Mentally Disadvantaged.
Each year the Knights collect donations to support the work of organizations that aid the members of Amador County’s mentally disadvantaged community. Our loc
local group is the ARC. And this year over $1500.00 was collected and donated to them for their wonderful works.
As active members of their respective parishes, the Knights of Amador County have participated in many activities that benefit the three Catholic Communities. These include membership on Pastoral Council, ushers, readers, communion ministries, and many more.
The Council also helps to sponsor the “Returning Catholics” ministry and runs a Bible Study group. Both of these programs have been very successful over the last few years.
One of the main activities of the Council is our Youth Prison Ministries. There are two California State Youth Facilities within Amador County: the Preston facility in Ione and the California Department of Forestry facility in Pine Grove. While Preston has a continuing program of meetings and a monthly Prayer Night, the Pine Grove site has communion service on a semi-regular basis.
These ministries have been a source of pride for the Amador County Council as it continues to find more ways to make a difference in Amador County and the Amador County Catholic Community.
In September of 2007, the Amador County Catholic Community celebrated its annual Tri-Parish Mass at the Italian Picnic Grounds in Sutter Creek, CA. Amador County Council 1849 played a major role in this even with the preparation of the food. Also on hand were members of the Fourth Degree Centennial Assembly Color Guard to escort Bishop Weigand as he was this year’s Celebrant.
This year is also a major turning point for the Amador County Council. Through the efforts of its members, enough income has been generated by annual crab feeds and a pork-fest, that a scholarship prgram was established. In this first year, $1000.00 has been was awarded in May.
